New Edition of The Bill of Rights and You Curriculum Launched byThe Bill of Rights Institute
Arlington, VA — The Bill of Rights Institute is proud to announce the launch of our latest curriculum, The Bill of Rights and You: Rights and Responsibilities.
Americans are a rights-conscious people, but too few contemplate the delicate interdependence of rights and responsibility. In James Madison’s words, “liberty may be endangered by the abuses of liberty as well as by the abuses of power.
The Bill of Rights and You: Rights and Responsibilities is designed with this in mind. It will bring students to a deeper understanding of their constitutionally-protected rights, and steep them in practical ways they may continue the symbiotic relationship of liberty and responsibility that is our birth-right.
Each of the 21 lessons in this 10-unit teacher’s guide is tied to national civics, history, and social studies standards, containing content-rich background essays and research-based teaching strategies that will help your students understand the relevance of the Bill of Rights in their own lives. The Bill of Rights and You: Rights and Responsibilities includes a complete answer key, optional reading quizzes, DVD viewing guides, a glossary of key terms, relevant landmark Supreme Court cases, and additional educational resources.
Other highlights include:
- Background essays written at 10.5 and 12.0 reading levels
- Interactive lesson plans full of innovative, hands-on activities
- An accompanying DVD set to reinforce content
- “Responsibilities Toolboxes” that demonstrate the relationship between liberty and responsibility
Enthusiastically received by teachers at the 2006 NCSS National Conference and multiple Professional Development seminars, The Bill of Rights and You: Rights and Responsibilities will be the cornerstone of your social studies, civics, or government curriculum.
