Bill of Rights Institute Resources - Shrinking the Achievement Gap

Our The Bill of Rights for Real Life curriculum, named a “High Quality” Civic Learning Practice by the Campaign for Civic Mission of Schools, was shown to have shrunk the achievement gap in a Yale University study:

The Bill of Rights for Real Life… was tested in 59 high school classrooms”, said Donald Green, Ph.D., of Yale University. “[Real Life] produced significant gains in (1) the number of factual questions about the Constitution that students answered correctly and (2) the amount of information that they brought to bear when evaluating a hypothetical dilemma. [Real Life] narrowed the gap between the highest-achieving school and the lowest-achieving school.”

Please view our new professional development program agendas related to the Real Life and other Bill of Rights Institute curricula, and email Kim Ash if you are interested in bringing a program to your school.

Drawing from our years of experience conducting professional development programs for Title I, Title II and Teaching American History Grant recipients, we have created new programs that provide teachers with the tools to increase student reading comprehension and develop higher level cognitive skills. Designed to assist at-risk and low performing schools, teachers will be able to engage students in meaningful learning and lead to better performance on end-of-year assessments. These New Professional Development Programs Meet ARRA Goals.

Online Resources Help Teachers Earn Credit Hours

Last Springl, we are launched our On Demand Constitutional Seminar, which converts our on-site professional development program to a format that allows teachers to get the Bill of Rights Institute’s classroom tested educational materials whom could not otherwise attend day long programs.

On Demand will enable teachers who are unable to attend our day-long seminars, for whatever the reason, to participate in an online program that provides them with the same background information, educational content, similar teaching strategies. Additionally, On Demand will allow your teachers to move through the programs at their own pace and according to their own schedule – anywhere they have an Internet connection and a computer. Check out the website or email Kim Ash or call her at 800-838-7870, ext. 18 for more information.
