May 2009:

The Institute launches On Demand Constitutional Seminars, an online tool that allows teachers to experience a Constitutional Seminar at their convenience.

In order to reach educators who cannot find the funding or time to attend a Constitutional Seminar in person, the Institute created the On Demand program to replicate the seminar experience through online scholar presentations, videos, and pedagogical materials.

Today, educators receive access to a variety of scholar presentations from actual seminars, interactive lessons, warm-up exercises, and evaluation tools, available at their convenience.  Upon completion of the program, teachers receive a professional development certificate.  Pre- and post-test results of seminar attendees showed that On Demand users experienced the same gain of knowledge as live seminar participants.

The program was piloted in Spring and Fall of 2008, and finally launched nation-wide on May 1st, 2009 to match the release of the Being an American curriculum. This convenient and effective tool is yet another way that the Bill of Rights Institute helps connect educators to American history.
