The Institute publishes Media and American Democracy.

In partnership with John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Bill of Rights Institute published a resource book exploring the relationship between media and democracy in the United States.

The Institute solicited lessons ideas from educators who attended the Media and American Democracy seminar at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.  The Institute edited the lessons, provided supplementary information about First Amendment protections of speech and the press, and published those lessons in Media and American Democracy.  By studying content such as the First Amendment, freedom of the press, media responsibilities, and politics, students develop a greater understanding of the complex relationship between government, free speech, and the media.
