The Institute publishes Citizenship and Character: Understanding America’s Civic Values.

Citizenship and Character: Understanding America's Civic ValuesThe Bill of Rights Institute has always believed that individuals must understand and practice civic values in order for the Founders’ vision of a prosperous and free nation to survive.  With this in mind, the Institute published its second major teacher resource book, Citizenship and Character: Understanding America’s Civic Values.

In creating the curriculum, the Institute’s staff first identified the values embedded in America’s Founding documents including courage, initiative, and justice. They then created activities and narratives to illustrate why these values matter and how they remain relevant in our modern society.

Along with a dozen lessons, the material also included the Institute’s first technology component, a CD-ROM that provides interactive scenarios in which students wrestle with choices and put those values into practice.

“I am finding the resource very valuable…[we] are always trying to tie character values into our curriculum. This unit is another way of accomplishing that goal.”
