June 2007: The Bill of Rights Institute conducts its first Constitutional Academy for high school students. A six-week educational program focused on the philosophical roots of American liberty, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the application of these ideas to current issues, the Constitutional Academy begins with online discussions of the course readings and concludes with a week of classroom sessions and field trips in the nation’s capital. Outstanding high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to explore a number of historic landmarks, such as the Capitol Building and George Washington’s Mount Vernon, as well as earn 3 undergraduate credits. Since 2007, the Constitutional Academy has helped more than 125 students experience first-hand the world of American history and government, and develop a greater understanding of constitutional principles.
