February 2001:

The Institute releases The Bill of Rights and You – its first set of curriculum to supplement standard high school U.S. History and Government textbooks.

The Bill of Rights and You: Rights and ResponsibilitiesThe Bill of Rights Institute conducted a focus group with Fairfax County, Virginia teachers, incorporating their feedback on pilot lessons, and established a system of scholar review to ensure that The Bill of Rights and You was well-written, carefully researched, and teacher-friendly.  This created what Institute president Victoria Hughes referred to as a team approach involving effective classroom teachers and constitutional scholars.

This successful formula produced instructional material exploring the Bill of Rights ranging from religious liberty to gun ownership to federalism, the original edition of The Bill of Rights and You became a valuable resource still used in classrooms today.
