April 2009:

The Institute publishes Presidents and the Constitution, Volume 1.

The powers of chief executive as articulated in Article II of the Constitution has provoked debate since the Constitution’s ratification in 1789.  With this in mind, the Institute published Volume 1 of Presidents of the Constitution in order to explore the different way that various Presidents have interpreted the words, purpose, and meaning of the Constitution. The curriculum resource was made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Volume 1 examines the decisions of presidents including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan in light of the Constitution.

The Presidents and the Constitution curriculum also features ArticleII.org, an interactive website with video introductions to each lesson, interesting facts about Presidents, and text overviews of each unit.  This combination of printed lessons and online supplementary material represented a step forward in the Institute’s ongoing efforts to be on the forefront of educational technology.
